Bent

Spirit of Justice, Come.

I repent & I lament. I’m so sorry that we’ve stayed bent.

Bent from not seeing your pain, bent from loving our white privilege gain. Bent in not hearing & seeing, bent for not believing & grieving.

Bent for not always speaking up, bent for only thinking about filling our cup. Bent for being drawn to our ignorance, bent for not being with you in this.

Bent from putting you in jail, bent from constantly putting you at fail. Bent from benefitting from the systems in place, bent from never you giving you grace.

I repent & I lament. I’m so sorry that we’ve stayed bent.

Bent from not including your color in toys, bent from ripping you away from joy. Bent from always thinking we’re first, bent from putting you in the worst.

Bent from being avidly colorblind, bent from constantly leaving you behind. Bent from our prayers directed only to us, bent from not letting you onto the bus.

Bent from leaning into our selfish intent, bent from not being with you in full lament. Bent attitudes, beliefs & minds needs to cease, in order for people of color to have PEACE.

I repent & I lament. I’m so sorry that we’ve stayed bent.

This is a prayer poem that the Holy Spirit prompted during a hike. I am listening & learning. #blacklivesmatter #saytheirnames #georgefloyd #breonnataylor #ahmaudarbery #spiritofjustice
